Abby’s Purple Bag Project
Have you heard of Abby’s Purple Bag Project? Well you should look it up if you haven’t. Abby’s Purple Bag Project was started by a local Las Vegas Kindergartner, who recently set a goal to reach 1,000 cancer patients in all 50 states. She came up with the idea after her grandmother, who is fighting cancer, asked family to donate care packages to those receiving chemotherapy in lieu of birthday presents. This inspired Abby to do more, “Abby’s Purple Bag Project” was started. Her journey was featured on the Today show
This story really inspired Capstone Brokerage to get involved. Recently the staff brought in donations to complete 100 care-packages to be delivered in Las Vegas. The bags were made for both children and teens and taken to Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. This small gesture hopefully will bring some comfort to those children receiving treatments. The most important part of the care-packages may be the words of encouragement written by staff and their children.
According to Mary Thompson, Capstone President, “This really hits home for our staff. A member of our Capstone family is currently fighting this battle. For me it is even more personal as my niece was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.” So this cause could not have come at a better time.
Capstone also sponsors two families each year during the Holidays through Olive Crest. Mary Thompson currently serves as a trustee on the board for Olive Crest. They are also involved in all Olive Crest fundraisers throughout the year. Visit Olive Crest for more information. Members of the Capstone team are also involved in other local charities such as 3Squared and the Animal Foundation.
When it comes to giving back, Stephanie Rodriguez, one of Capstone’s Marketing Coordinators, stated, “I love this kind of stuff.” Capstone staff is dedicated to giving back to the community. The employees are encouraged to pick a charity that they are passionate about get involved. Capstone Brokerage has a goal for 2014 to do a quarterly charity project. Abby’s Purple Bag Project is this quarters focus. Capstone is looking for similar projects like Abby’s across the Las Vegas Valley to get involved in.
