State legislators in Ohio and Florida are moving ahead with regulations governing Uber and other ride services that would designate all drivers as independent contractors, bolstering a critical but much-disputed aspect of Uber’s business model.

While a full definition is hard to come by, price optimization generally refers to an insurer’s practice of varying rates based on non-risk-related factors. Price optimization involves analysis and incorporation of data not related to expected cost for risk characteristics — that is, it involves factors not related to expected loss and expense experience. Results from recent child car seat inspections in New York indicate that parents need to do a better job of buckling up their little ones.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office says 931 car seats were inspected at a series of state-run safety checks earlier this fall. Only 112 seats were installed correctly. Continue reading →
