The article highlights changes with insurance coverage’s in the entertainment industry following the unexpected death of Pop Icon Michael Jackson prior to his “This Is It” tour. Pop Stars such as Britney Spears may experience higher insurance rates as a result. Currently promoters pay 3-5% of the value of a policy for an event in case of cancellation or postponement. Mary Thompson, president of Las Vegas-based Capstone Brokerage, said she expects Spears probably bought “contingency insurance” for her Planet Hollywood residency but now it includes new stipulations following the pop star’s widely publicized breakdown a few years go.
