A new thrill ride, a zip line-like attraction called VooDoo Skyline, is expected to open this summer at the Rio. It will connect the resort’s two towers. (RENDERING COURTESY OF CAESARS ENTERTAINMENT)
A zip line to connect the two towers at the off-Strip Rio resort will open on in early November.
Called the VooDoo Zip Line after the Rio’s steak restaurant on the 50th floor launching point, a roundtrip will run $24.99 between noon and 5:30 p.m., then $37 until midnight every day, according to an announcement on Wednesday. The price does not include service fees.
Although called a zip line, it is a hybrid of that and a ski lift. The way down to the top of the 20-story Ipanema tower will hit a top speed of 33 miles per hour, then return riders on a backward ride at about 20 miles per hour. The starting point will be 490 feet above the ground.
Ride developer New Capital Ventures, based in Las Vegas, will attempt to raise come capital through crowd sourcing. This would give people certain perks for funding.
Las Vegas is also expecting two more zip lines in the future. A popular ride at downtown’s Fremont Street Experience is being reinvented under the name “Slotzilla,” but the project is behind schedule.
Officials with MGM Resorts International say a project to build a zip line between the Luxor and Excalibur casinos is still in planning.
