Summer is Here! - Capstone Brokerage

RoadSummer travel plans? The last thing you are probably thinking about is insurance. That is until you get to the car rental counter. In Las Vegas, auto insurance is a common topic for those visiting our city. Many of the rental car companies will try and get you to add on car rental insurance to the cost of a rental, but do you need it?

There are a couple of things you should to do before you commit to the added cost. First and foremost, if you know you will be renting a car on your next trip, call prior to and ask your agent about your car insurance coverage! Sometimes your policy will provide rental car coverage and that may be enough for your travel plans. If you don’t own a car, this may be another reason to look into a non-owner auto insurance policy. Also, give your credit card company a call. I was surprised to find out that I was provided coverage not only by my auto insurance policy but also by my credit card company. They sometimes provide coverage for situations with rental cars and accidents, but not always, still it is worth a call.

Your current car insurance coverage may be enough for your trip, but the only way to be sure is to ask your agent. Sometimes insurance offered at the rental car counter is the right choice and other times you can stick with the auto coverage you have. Everyone’s policy is different so whenever you have questions about your specific coverage, it’s important to speak directly with your agent about your policy. In the end, I saved myself some money by educating myself and turning down the added expense at the car rental counter. I hope you can do the same. Just some added travel advice.
