Trump Promises “Insurance for Everybody”
By: Allie Sanchez, (Insurance Business) January 2017
“We’re going to have insurance for everybody. There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us,” president-elect Donald J. Trump said in an interview with The Washington Post.
Furthermore, he promised that citizens covered under the new law “can expect to have great health care. It will be in a much simplified form. Much less expensive and much better.”
The Washington Post conducted a telephone interview over the weekend with President-elect Trump, in which he also revealed that his administration is “nearing completion” of a universal health care plan to replace Obamacare, which has drawn flak since its 2014 enactment due to floundering exchanges that hemorrhaged financially from slow adoption.
However, the new President declined to reveal further details of the plan, except that he has taken into consideration the possibility that 20 million Americans are bound to lose health insurance coverage with the repeal of Obamacare.
Trump was further reported to have said that he expects the full cooperation of the Republican-dominated legislature to expedite the passing of the measure, along with tax cuts, and the approval of the construction of a wall along the Mexico border.
If Congress drags its heels over the proposed law, The Washington Post reported that the new president “is ready to use the power of the presidency – and Twitter – to usher his legislation to pass.”
